The Mediterranean diet is a model of eating based on the traditional foods and drinks of the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. In the last decades, it has been promoted worldwide as one of the healthiest dietary patterns and has been reported to have benefits regarding to chronic diseases and longevity. Mediterranean Diet is characterized by a high consumption of fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes and nuts, moderately high consumption of fish, moderate-to-low consumption of dairy products, low consumption of red meat and meat products, with olive oil as the principal source of fat. Mediterranean diet encourages consumption of 1 to 2 glasses of wine a day are allowed for men and one glass a day for women. However, many consumers don’t know what to think about the health effects of drinking wine. Moderate drinking has been associated to health benefits by some researchers. Other ones, on the other hand, claim that even the occasional drink is harmful to health and suggest that governments should think to advise people to abstain completely.

The congress “2nd Science & Wine World Congress. Wine and Olive Oil Production: the Fluid Aspect of Mediterranean Diet” is scheduled for 2 to 4 June 2021.  In 2021 we will share our Congress with the rest of world online.

The programme will include scientific sessions (2 and 3 June) and the Workshop “The importance of science communication to clarify wine health effects” in Quinta do Crasto (4 June). The conference organizers invite all partners to continue their engagement with this event and will work towards ensuring a better programme with an even greater level of participation in 2021.

We look forward to seeing you at Science & Wine 2021 in the exciting and historical cities of Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto, which provides an unforgettable environment for the Conference.
